The Parochial Church Council (PCC)

The parochial church council (PCC) is the executive committee of St Mark's parish and consists of clergy and churchwardens, together with representatives of the congregation and others. It is a corporate charitable body with charity number 1128485. Further details can be found on the Charity Commission webpage for the PCC.

Legally the council is responsible for the financial affairs of the church parish and the maintenance of the church building and hall complex. It also assists the clergy in the management of church affairs in the parish, and promoting the mission of the church. The rules for parish governance are set out in the Church Representation Rules.

The current members of the PCC are:

Standing committee

The standing committee meets between PCC meetings and agrees the agenda for the next PCC meeting. It can also make certain decisions in emergencies.

Deanery Synod

A deanery is a group of parishes. Every deanery is required to have a Synod - a council - chaired by the area dean and an elected lay chair. Working closely with the area bishop and archdeacon, the deanery synod's priorities include mission action planning and the allocation of the share from the deanery to the parishes.

Diocesan Synod

Alongside the bishops of Coventry and Warwick, diocesan synod's membership is drawn from parishioners and clergy from Coventry diocese.

The bishops have a duty to consult the diocesan synod on matters of general importance and concern to the diocese and, in turn, diocesan synod provides a connection to deanery synods and PCCs.

Annual Parochial Church Meeting

APCMs are held every year and all those who are on the electoral roll of the church may attend and take part in a vote. Other people who live in the parish may attend but are not able to vote. Reports are presented about the finances and activities of the church over the past year, and churchwardens and members of the PCC are chosen for the forthcoming year. Although usually held in May each year, the information presented at the meeting relates to the calendar year that ended in the December a few months before.

The APCM for 2023 was held on 14 May 2023.
