What is Alpha?

Alpha is an opportunity to explore life and Christianity in a friendly, open and informal environment. Over 10 weeks we hope to help you understand the foundations of the Christian faith.

Alpha courses are being run in churches, homes, workplaces, prisons, universities and a wide variety of other locations around the world by all major Christian denominations. It’s estimated that 24 million people have participated since the 1990s.

Talks and discussions cover:

  • Christianity: Boring, Irrelevant, Untrue?
  • Who is Jesus?
  • Why did Jesus die?
  • How can we have faith?
  • Why and how should I read the Bible?
  • How does God guide us?
  • Who is the Holy Spirit?
  • What does the Holy Spirit do?
  • How can I be filled with the Holy Spirit?
  • How can I resist evil?
  • Why and how should I tell others?
  • Does God heal today?
  • What about the Church today?
  • How can I make the most of my life?

What Happens?

A typical evening

7pm – Welcome drinks

7:30pm – Simple hot meal. This is always a good time to get to know others and often leads to good friendships.

8.00pm –  Presentation on the session topic (see list above)

8:30pm – Pudding, followed by an opportunity to respond to what you have heard and ask questions.

9.30 pm – Finish

Away Day

We often find that an evening is just not long enough and discussions just get started and need to stop again. The course also includes an ‘away day’ on a Saturday which will include a couple of talks, but will provide much more space to reflect, discuss and just spend more time together.

Who is the course for?

It is our aim that the course is accessible to everyone, meets people where they are and encourages them on their spiritual journey. You are welcome to bring your questions and ideas to the course discussion group and to enjoy exploring possible ideas and answers with other participants and team members.

What does the course cost?

There is no charge for the course; however you are welcome to make voluntary contributions towards the cost of food if you can afford to do so.

What have others said…
