A Veg-tastic day at Milverton School

A whole day of celebrating Harvest and exploring the weird and wonderful world of Vegetables was enjoyed by children, staff and some St Mark’s folks on Thursday 14th October at Milverton School.

The day began with a veg-tastic assembly featuring Pete Potato (Rev Paul) Suzie Sweetcorn (Marie Calvert) and Clara Cabbage (Sally Butt). The wonderful talking vegetables reminded us that we have been given eyes, ears and hearts to see, listen and love one another – can you work out which vegetable gave which message?!

The day continued with the children having different workshops and activities including soup-tasting and craft. Some of the youngest Reception children heard stories from Lucy Aghoghogbe, the year 3 and 4 children visited Tony Parsons on his amazing allotment and children from year 3 through to year 6 visited the library in their class groups throughout the day to meet Ellie and Barry.

In this session we explored world foods, families, money and fairness – often a very stirring and touching discussion as children engaged with how they felt having more pocket money than some people in countries like Chad have to feed their whole families for a week. The children were invited to make their hopes, wishes, prayers and promises on slips of paper and post them in a special box throughout the day.

Thank you to all those involved. If you would like to get more involved in engaging with the local schools why not come along to Morning Prayers on Thursdays in the committee room at 9.30 am – each week we focus our prayers for the schools in the parish. Or if you want to help with assemblies or other activities please have a chat with Ellie or Paul.
