Travelling light

The Spanish holiday was over, and I was at the airport – off the plane and at the carousel waiting for my luggage. This excellent system allows travellers to spread out along a line, reach out to remove suitcases, and then head for home. I made an interesting observation; a very large number of the cases were either a very dark colour, or totally black. This resulted in numerous items being dragged off the carousel, followed by a checking of the labels – to find that each belonged to someone else. Embarrassing. Then it had to be heaved back onto the moving belt, and all the while you’re trying to wear an innocent look so everyone would know you weren’t trying to make off with someone else’s black bag.

Despite the ease of the system, there were some people who would only walk as far as the point where the luggage first appears, so this area was crowded, as it always is. Every time a black bag came into view, an entire mob would circle around it, all reaching out for the labels. Just being a part of this could lead to being mugged by a dozen or so other black-luggage-lugging passengers.

My luggage is pastel green. With huge pictures of roses. I always know when mine is coming. There’s never a doubt.

Jesus knows us that way. He can see us coming. Instant identification. There’s a lot of dark stuff in this world, and if you have given your life to Christ, there is much joy in being a bright green bag in a mountain of black suitcases.
