Still small voice

(Quiet Day at Offa House -  Monday 9th November)

“Most of the things I’ve done wrong, I’ve done wrong in a hurry.”

So said Tina Lamb at the beginning of the quiet day on Watching and Waiting.  I think many of us can identify with that.

So, during the course of this day, we used the space to slow down and to reflect, to watch and wait.  We were asked to identify the birth of Christ in our lives and consider all those who had played their part in that.

I began to write some names – and when I reviewed the list I realized there were no spiritual giants, no “super Christians” … but instead, people whose godliness revealed itself in quiet ways; people who had turned and smiled; people who had sent an unexpected card; people who had the courage to break ranks and say something whose effect they could never have predicted.

At Offa House in the Garden Room is a series of posters which can be ordered on:
www.radiantlight.org.uk.

The one that struck me the most was a painting of The Annunciation.  Mary is shown with the glory of the Holy Spirit not only entering her but drawing her up to the radiance, so her participation is absolute: a perfect image to meditate on.

We too can participate in the outpouring and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.  One word, one smile, one card of yours may have a far greater effect on someone else’s life than the most electrifying inspirational speaker.
