Pastoral jottings

Firstly a big thank you to those people who have contacted me offering help with pastoral visiting or let me know who they are visiting on a regular basis.  It is important that as St Mark’s grows we try to meet the pastoral needs of the whole church and some planning and structure is necessary to facilitate this.

Transport can be a problem as we have an increasing number of people who would like to attend services or events such as Firs Lunch but cannot get here without a lift.  If you would like to be involved with either transport or visiting please call me on 01926 428864.

Christine Chesterfield

Christine Chesterfield

Today I heard that Christine Chesterfield has died at Eversleigh Nursing Home. She attended St Mark’s since 1946, although she had been unable to get to church for the past few years she always wanted to know what was going on so she could pray about it.  She was a great intercessor who prayed constantly for St Mark’s, the town, missionary work, her friends and above all her family. She was a regular attendee at Power Hour our weekly prayer meeting, and when she could no longer get to church we moved the meeting to her house and then for the past two and a half years, we have met at Eversleigh.  It has been a privilege to spend time in prayer with her and watch how she gently proclaimed her faith and shared the gospel message with all who came into contact with her.

Christine gave me the following poem which she had been given many years ago.  The author is unknown but the message timeless.

O Lord, who in your wisdom let me fail
and know myself as blind and weak and frail,
That in my defeat might fully see my need,
my constant need, to trust in you.
I yield to your great strength for you will hold
the weakest sheep of all your ransomed fold.

A drawing by Christine of a sheep, her favourite animal.

Just before her death she said to me ‘We are all God’s children  – I am his and he is mine.’  Christine’s words will not be forgotten.

Blessings
