OPEN FOR WORSHIP
After many years of hoping we are delighted to have received permission to make some changes to help us improve our worship.
The most significant change is to reposition our beautiful wooden screen from the chancel to the back of the church. Along with raising the chancel floor slightly and removing the two front choir stalls, this will open up the chancel space to give us more flexibility in worship and performance, and better visibility for all the congregation.
These changes means other work becomes necessary (for example, replacing cabling and carpets) and we are taking the opportunity to make a few other needed improvements at the same time. These include:
· Improving the lighting of the new chancel area
· Improving the sound, camera and screens system
· Repositioning the sound-desk
· Modify the toilets in church to give disabled access
· Complete a high level clean of the building interior
· Renew the church carpets
A large part of the work is due to be completed by the end of November. We will be able to meet in the church as usual throughout this time.
We want St Mark’s Church to reflect God’s glory and to encourage us in our praise. Let’s be truly Open for Worship.
The PCC have approved an estimated cost of £100,000 to cover all the works, including a tithe of 10% of funds raised, which we will donate to support God’s work elsewhere in the world.
Our Open for Worship project needs our prayer, our pennies, and our practical support.
We can all pray for the work and for the workers. Not everybody will be in a position to help financially, but please contribute if you can, and please ask David Calvert (or the Vicar, or Ellie) how you can contribute your time and practical skills.
