Joan Chedham
It was with great sadness that we learnt that Joan had lost her two-year fight with cancer. Joan was born and brought up in Barford and moved to Leamington when she married her childhood sweetheart. He was a great-nephew of the Chedham family who became famous when “Chedham’s Yard” blacksmith’s workshop in Wellesbourne won the national Restoration competition on television.
But Joan married into the bakery side of the family, and she worked alongside her husband in their bakery in High Street, Leamington. Her skill as a cake-maker and pastry cook was legendary, and she also did the accounts for the firm.
She was also a very active member of Mothers’ Union, and had been the Treasurer. She presented the accounts at the AGM as recently as January this year, when it was quite obvious how ill she was, but she was determined to fulfil her task. We miss her very much.
She had two daughters, Helen, and Jayne (Jayne Johnson), married to Andy, with daughters Sophie, Grace and Lucy, who are also so much a part of the church family here at St. Mark’s.
To all the family we send our love and sympathy.
