A Picture of God’s Transformation

Wouldn’t it be great to have a Youth Room the young people are proud of, where we can meet, learn and play, enjoy drinks and snacks together; the home of a community reaching out to disadvantaged young people around us?  That’s the objective of the Upper Room project, and thanks to God’s goodness and volunteer hours, the room is reborn, ready for all sorts of good work.

Last spring the young people put their words and ideas into the Warwickshire Youth Opportunity Fund application that received a £24,000 grant.

Astonishingly that was followed by more grant success, covering the whole £32,000 planned cost.

Physical work ran from December, with adult volunteers starting and finishing it; clearing old furniture out at the start and contributing many hours of cleaning, sanding and painting at the end.  Between times, contractors removed the partition walls and beams, and fitted new sound-reducing flooring, cupboards, kitchen, heating, electrics and lighting, with Steve Hood coordinating and me making cups of tea! (when not  working from home).  Katy managed the other room bookings around the work – quite a challenge!

Thanks to all the volunteers, and flexibility from Floors4All, we actually brought the carpet fitting forwards, allowing new furniture delivery right into the room by kind Ikea delivery men on Saturday 23rd January.

Since then the transformed room has hosted two opening nights (for 10-14’s and 14-18’s) and numerous other group meetings.  A formal opening, thanking those who gave grants is planned, and we are working hard to thank God through a £3,000 gift to CORD’s toilet twinning project in Burundi, and Moldova Ministries’ community building at Bethany Church.

Thank you all for your hard work, prayers, encouragement, fundraising efforts and most of all for your vision that young people are worth investing in.
