Fiesta!

Thanks to Gideon and ten Careforce friends from Africa we had a wonderful fiesta evening on June 18th.

Most of us looked (unsurprisingly) quite English, but amongst the more adventurous Phillipa wore a lovely blue sari, Helen a most elegant blue and white long robe from Kenya (gift of Maasai’s family) and Onde, who was MC for the proceedings, looked  very resplendent in his robes, including a stylish red hat.

Lucy and helpers had been working hard all day to provide nearly 100 people with a dozen or more different East African dishes; only one was so seriously hot with chilli, it had a warning at the side!. Some dishes contained meat, most were based on pulses, and absolutely delicious. Some seemed quite different from what we expected – the “doughnuts” and the plantains.

Gideon and his friends led us singing praises to God in Swahili, and dancing.

Thank you everyone who helped prepare and clear away, and to Careforce for bringing these  young folk to share with us their enthusiasm for the Gospel.

Gideon does so much here in St. Mark’s.  Amongst other things, he works with Toddlers, uniformed groups, schools, Crossroads, teenagers, San Marco’s, FIR’s, Craft, Nightlight – and visits residential homes, where he has really won their hearts by his friendliness and cheerful smile. He also had the courage and sense of humour to come to Mothers’ Union Royal Wedding party – wearing a frilly hat!

There are envelopes available to support the work of Careforce.
