Emmaus

Have you discovered the Emmaus Charity shop yet? Terry Waite opened it just before Christmas. It is in High Street between the bottom of Clemens Street and Tachbrook Road, where the plant hire shop was. Unlike most charity shops it will happily also take furniture and electrical goods.

Emmaus is a Christian community, giving a home, training and employment, “but more importantly a reason to get out of bed… a real feeling of belonging,… confidence and self respect. All of which, if you are homeless and on the streets, is driven out of you by the way other people treat you.”.

Remember how the two disciples who lived in Emmaus offered shelter and a meal to a stranger – the risen Christ? The community lives at the 300 year-old Vicarage on Brinklow Road, which they restored, and companions learn gardening, slight restoration of furniture and electrical items, and remodelling retro-clothing, if necessary, before resale.

They will collect and deliver large items, but please donate to the cost of the transport.Shop hours 10.00 am-5.00 pm Mon-Sat.
