DESOLATION

There are times when life feels as if you’re staring into an abyss. One moment you’re walking along happily and then all points of reference seem to disappear. What have you achieved? Where are you going? And in the darkness you cannot see. You stumble along feeling disorientated.

This is the time to stop and listen. And the silence can be deafening. It is at this point that faith kicks in. I cannot hear, I cannot see but somehow I know that I have come from somewhere and I am going somewhere. When I go to bed and turn off the light, I cannot see. But as the minutes pass, I find that I can dimly recognise what is around me. And even so when our lives go into darkness we find that with time we start to see objectives dimly. We can continue our journey and we must have faith that God will protect us from harm and that we will find ourselves back in clear daylight.

On the cross Jesus felt complete separation and isolation from God. Yes, even in our darkest times God knows what we are going through and so we have no choice other than to have faith and put our trust in Him that He knows what He is doing and that He will lead us back into a world of light and sensation.
